The short answer is: MANY things!

New Land/ SHE Centre: We have some new land on the eastern side of Phuket. Here we are clearing the land, pouring sidewalks and getting ready to begin the construction of the new SHE Centre. Check out our Project Proposal for more details.

Jewellery & Journals: We are constantly making new jewellery! We sell our jewellery to the visiting teams, individuals from around the world and to jewelry representatives who sell our jewellery for us. In addition to making jewellery, we now are making journals! They are brightly colored and beautiful. If you would like to purchase some jewellery or a journal, please contact us.

English Classes: Every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon we have English Classes in Patong as an outreach programme to the women working in the bars. This is a safe place for the women to come to and a place where we can speak into these women. It is here that we can speak freely without the fear of a bar manager not approving of what we are doing.

Hotel Training Course: We have been preparing a Free Hotel Training Course for women to take as a way to get them out of the bars and into a better job. Furthermore; this serves as a prevention program for women hoping to get a job at a hotel and are turned away because they are not qualified. Instead of turning to the bars, we want them to come to our free program.

MTS: We are excited for the new MTS (Mission Training School) that is starting in January! With this comes a lot of work to prepare for this. There is a lot of paperwork, applications of the students, planning, scheduling, and construction of rooms, etc… for this. You can attend our next MTS for July 2012, apply here.

Baking: We make many cookies. We are able to sell these cookies to the visiting team members and to some local hotels.

Team Outreach: We are thankful that many teams come to serve with us. We arrange their housing, food, and ministry activities they will be participating in during their stay with us. Wanna serve with us? Click here for more details as to how!

We are excited for the growth that is occurring, yet with any growth of any ministry, there is more work to be had!

A New programme. After spending 4 years working in Patong one fact kept coming back was that many of the young women originally travelled down to Phuket from the poorer districts of Thailand to work in Hotels only to find they needed qualifications and, or experience to get any sort of work. Unfortunately, there are many that have not had the opportunity to finish their education so their options become very limited and as a last resort they end up working in the bars clubs and massage parlours of Patong.

Tourism is one of the largest and fastest growing industries in Phuket and there is always a need of qualified staff.
So we have started a new programme at SHE to bridge the gap between the hotels and the ladies who wish to work in them by offering free training in hospitality, catering and English. This programme is not only offered to ladies who work in Patong but to women all over Thailand to prevent them entering the commercial sex industry.

Our training programme is promoted by the Thai employment offices and social services and we are building relationships within the local hotels.

Another new Programme We now also have an English language outreach programme to local children and to women who continue to work in the bars.

A new building The building next door to the SHE centre had been empty all the time we had been in Kathu but we always felt that God was holding it for SHE. With the vision for a much wider programme at SHE we needed more space, Sharon and Mark prayed about renting it and felt Gods prompting but one problem was the rent. The landlord wanted far more than we were paying for our present building and the second obstacle was that we did not have the deposit required. We contacted the landlord and made them an offer.  We asked a visiting team to pray for confirmation. They came back with “you will know in 2 days” and secondly “you will receive the keys in 2 weeks” and that is exactly what happened. So we have now double the floor space and can offer far more than we could before including safe housing for Thai women who work at SHE and childcare facilities

AT THIS TIME WE ARE UNABLE TO OFFER THEM PLACES ON OUR TRAINING PROGRAMME BECAUSE WE LACK THE FUNDS REQUIRED TO SUPPORT THEM.

This week we had another Baptism on the beach, it is always fantastic to see the transformation that takes place where before there was no hope there is now true freedom, hope and joy in these womens lives.

BLESSINGS FROM US ALL AT SHE

Our three ladies away on DTS graduated today and we are so proud of them. Please continue to pray for them as they will return shortly and start applying all they have learnt.

We continue to host teams, over the past few months we have we have hosted 4 YWAM DTS teams (Montana twice, LA and Denver) 2 World Race teams plus 2 teams from Global Infusion, a team from California and a team from the UK. We have also been blessed by some old friends who have either visited for the first time or returned to see how the programme has grown and to catch up with old friends. Each team has blessed us and the ministry here incredibly. Each team has been out at night building relationships, prayer walking in the daytime plus taking on practical projects within our local area.

We have seen the number of ladies joining the programme grow plus many more visiting SHE on a social basis for lunch and generally to hang out because of the increased activity that comes with having teams with us.

The training programmes offered continues to grow from the original jewellery we have been working on making chocolates, baking all kinds of great stuff like cookies, bread and dohnuts plus making Saa paper boxes. We thank God for the way He has provided for us and the favour we have found in the local community. You will have to see our pictures to get an idea of what it all looks like.

We continue to make and sell the jewellery as usual and are beginning to see more people start to organise parties again plus some orders coming in via the web site.

We have almost finished fitting out the office, we have been able to add much needed additional desk space as well as additional power and computer points.

The converted pickup truck / bus has been a great help transporting the teams about. We are presently fundraising to purchase a second vehicle which is much needed as we grow.

We are also fundraising to meet the costs of setting up a Thai foundation as our activities grow we need to change our present status / description to reflect our vision such as prevention programmes in the rural areas of Thailand. With this in mind we have recently seen 2 of our ladies leave to start businesses of their own in their home villages using the skills they have acquired at SHE.
